Utilising many of the techniques of stencil art, particularly a focus on light, photorealism and hyper-realism allow me to engage in a discussion around viewing and perception, and mediation of imagery and meaning.
The image presented by the artist is necesarily a mediated one. Similary, our engagements with the world are increasingly mediated by perameters established by social and political forces. These elements may present themselves as politically neutral, but are deeply imbued with political intention.
Beauty, ingenuity and light should be sought out and examined with both an openness to appreciation and an openness to critical examination of the structures that contribute to their presentation and re-presentation.
